Steel Pan Brings the Caribbean to Brooklyn

Pantonic and Instructor Wayne Bernard

Pantonic is a youth steel pan orchestra in Brooklyn, New York.  The steel pan, commonly known as ‘steel drum,’ has long been associated with caribbean culture.  Parents hope the group provides students with a chance to connect with their heritage. Wayne Bernard, the orchestra’s instructor, hopes the group instills a sense of discipline in his students.  Reporting, production, and image by Jorteh Senah.
